Cookies
Short version: browsing this site and sending an enquiry leave no cookies behind. The basket needs three, and nothing here follows you anywhere.
What a cookie is
A small file a site asks your browser to keep, so it can recognise the same browser later. Some are needed to make a site work at all; most of the ones people worry about exist to count visitors or to target advertising.
What this site sets while you read
Nothing. There is no analytics, no advertising or social code, no embedded video, and no chat widget. Our two typefaces are served from our own server rather than a font service, so no third party sees your visit at all.
The enquiry form posts straight to this site and sets no cookie while doing it.
What the basket sets
Put a tool in the basket and the shop has to remember it from one page to the next. WooCommerce, which runs the shop, sets three cookies at that moment and not before:
| Cookie | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| woocommerce_items_in_cart | Records that your basket is not empty | Until you close the browser |
| woocommerce_cart_hash | Notices when the contents change, so you are shown the right basket | Until you close the browser |
| wp_woocommerce_session_… | Ties the basket, and what you type at the checkout, to your browser | 2 days |
These are strictly necessary for a shop, which is why no banner asks you about them: without them the basket would empty between one page and the next. None carries an advertising identifier, none is read by anyone but this site, and closing the browser is enough to be rid of the first two.
When one of us signs in
The site runs on WordPress. When one of us signs in to edit a page, WordPress sets the session cookies it needs – in that person’s browser, not in yours.
If that ever changes
If we ever add something that needs a cookie you have not agreed to – visitor counting, say – the question comes first and the answer is yours. This page would then name every cookie, what it does and how long it lasts.
Managing cookies yourself
Every browser can show, block or delete cookies in its privacy settings. Blocking them all will stop the basket holding anything; nothing else on the site depends on one, so reading it is unaffected.
